Halloween Party Time, and Some Mad Lighting Experiments
I spent a lot of time with a roll of tin-foil, and some cardboard panels, and duct tape trying to create a broad lighting situation using only my Nikon SB-800 speedlight for some "mugshots". These first couple of pics are the result. I like them. They have a strange quality, but I think I need to work on this lighting technique a little more. It definitely has some potential.
But then, in the process of trying to figure out exactly what was going on with my tin-foil reflectors I discovered that if I turned off my flash and used a really long shutter speed, the spotlight on the side of Craig's house (in conjunction with my tin-foil panels) was creating this weird wrap-around, side-lighting effect that was extremely crude, but somehow was working for me, and this subject matter, more appropriately. They have a quality like photos you might find in a dusty box in your grandfathers garage. I need to try and re-create this lighting again sometime in a more controlled manner.
