This Is Halloween

"...In This Town
We Call Home..."

Special Thanks to my GF and our Halloween Hostess for throwing this madness together like a pro.

And thanks also to Craig for letting us trash his house, again.

Jonathan and Matthew

Had a little photo shoot with my girlfriends bros. I tried really hard not to think about it too hard, and it turned out pretty well. I'm happy with them anyway. I have been stressing a little lately about how I can't afford a new camera right now. But It's always a surprise how things can work out with the minimum equipment. I'm remembering how to make the most of what I got.

I decided I wanted to keep it low key, and I wanted to use the backlight that was going on in these trees. So I used my SB-800 flash for some fill and, although it's a bit contrasty, it worked out even better than I thought it would.

The Fall Colors

Didn't last too long this year, but I captured a little of that action.

Vote For Me!

Thought I would throw out a little bit of shameless promotion for myself here. I have submitted some photos to this contest in which the winners get published in a coffee table style photo book all about Utah.

Capturemyutah.com

It would make me happy to get in there, so if you want to you can go and vote for my images if you like them. There is only 4 days left to vote before the deadline. The direct link to the page with all my photos is below:

Grasshoppers

Recently I attempted to photograph one of the many grasshoppers that have been infesting my habitat in the end of this summer. It is much easier said than done, but here are a few attempts.

Oil

A long time ago, before the Spiral Jetty, there was some sort of oil drilling operation going on at Rozelle Point. As there was not much thought given to taking care of the environment at the time you can still see all the remains and junk out there. It's all part of the mystique of the place to me. I am intrigued by the history you can see lying all around the Great Salt Lake. It serves as a reminder that nothing we do on this Earth is truly permanant, but the scars can take a very long time to heal. So although it all makes for some interesting pictures, it also saddens me to see stuff like this out there in what might have been a beautiful and pristine landscape.

Mill B South Fork to Lake Blanche

This year is the best for hiking if you want to see lots of flowers. Amelia and I went on this hike last week. It was good times.
